Health is undeniably one of the most important things in life. Whether from a purely economic point of view or one with more holistic features, health matters. More than just steering clear of symptoms, staying healthy means living in such a way that quality of life doesn’t diminish. At Marea Foundation, Inc., we think a big part of this is education and community based. Equipped with the know-how to keep themselves as healthy as possible and support systems to help during the rough patches, the local attitude towards health will shift from something that must be given from outsiders to something that they can cultivate for themselves.

We are beyond excited and thankful for the opportunity to be a part of that cultivation in Trujillo. We’ve had the chance to repair x-ray machines by replacing broken parts. Before this, the x-ray machine had not worked for 8 years (You read that right - 8 years!), and the closest machine was a 45-minute drive over less-than-pristine roads in Tocoa. However, now there is an accessible x-ray machine right in the heart of Trujillo.

Our current projects also include providing the hospital in Trujillo with a triage structure other than tented tarps and repairing its anesthesia machine. An additional development that makes us immensely grateful is our new partnership with Trujillo Bay Chocolate Company, which donates a portion of their profits to help fund our medical projects!
